Botulinum toxins have been used since the 1950s, when their medicinal benefits were discovered to be effective in treating certain muscular conditions. Its uses have evolved dramatically, and they are currently a staple in applications for anti-aging treatments. The product is delivered superficially into the muscle throughout a series of injections, resulting in freezing of the muscle, temporary improvement of mild to moderate facial lines, and wrinkles by means of muscle relaxation. This treatment can also be used to relax certain unwanted dynamic expressions, correct long-term, when kept up routinely, subtle asymmetries, and even provide a temporary cure to excessive sweating of underarms, hands and feet.
